Card for a Quilter

It was my Mum’s birthday on the weekend, and I had been wanting to make her a “Quilt” style card for some time.
After searching the internet for ideas for the type of design I was after, I found a card on Pinterest by Ros Davidson (a fellow Aussie SU Demonstrator) which was just what I’d had in mind.

So, using the aptly named Lovely Linen DSP, I made a “scrap quilt” style card. I cut strips of the Designer Series Paper and arranged them on a layer piece of Basic White cardstock.
Once I was happy with the layout, I started gluing them down with liquid glue, so that I had a little time to position & adjust each strip as I went.
When all the strips were on (and the glue had dried), I trimmed off the excess off the strips to make the layer.
I then used the Stitched Greenery die to add a stitched look, just like a quilt would have.
This was then layered on a piece of Evening Evergreen cardstock, which was in turn layered onto a larger piece of the Lovely Linen Designer Series Paper.
The card base itself (which isn’t seen from the front) was Soft Succulent.
The stamp and tag are both from the Lovely & Lasting Bundle.
I’ve also added Evening Evergreen & Pale Papaya Open Weave Ribbons tied together in a bow.

I was really happy with the end result!

This card was actually made (by me) to be from my sister (who lives in the USA) as mail has been so unpredictable (read that as unreliable) that she asked me to make one so that it would get to Mum on time!
My sister wrote a message for inside the card, took a photo of it and sent it to me. I then printed the message and pasted it inside the card so that it was truely her message.

The card I gave my Mum was one that I had previously made for a Cards to Go kit, but I thought Mum would really like.

This card uses Hues of Happiness Designer Series Paper, and other items from the Hues of Happiness Suite Collection with the “Happy Birthday” stamp being from the Artistically Inked Stamp Set.
I am happy to say, that she loved both cards 😊

Cards for a Swap - Watercolour background

A few weeks ago I attended an online demonstrator only event full of crafting fun.

After the event, we had the option to participate in a Swap. Since July was World Watercolour month, I used a simple watercolour background technique to create the focus for this card.

The colours used for this project were inspired by the Design a Daydream Designer Series Paper, which is a "Host Reward" item (cannot be purchased, but can be earned).

The colours I chose from this were, Blackberry Bliss, Daffodil Delight (although, I used So Saffron as I didn't have the reinker for Daffodil Delight), Petal Pink, Pool Party.

I took some baking paper and dropped a few spots randomly of each colour and then used my Stampin' Spritzer to add water to the ink. I then took Shimmery White Cardstock (I had cut this to card front size) and laid the card into the ink/water. I had multiple pieces of cardstock ready so that I could use all of the ink up.

Once dried, I embossed each piece with the Quatrefoil Tile Embossing Folder.

Each embossed piece was cut in half (which doubled the amount I had) and placed on a layer of Gold Foil, before adding it to the front of the Blackberry Bliss card.

I've also used the Lovely & Lasting Stamp Set and the Lasting Label Punch to create the sentiment piece. A little addition of the Gold Foil diecut (from the Eden dies) was added to the label and the card was finished off with some Iridescent Rhinestone Basic Jewels.

The inside of the card was a piece of Basic White cardstock which I stamped various images from the Lovely & Lasting Stamp Set in each of the colours I had used in the watercolours.

The Stamp set & punch can be purchased as a Bundle, or you can purchase the Lovely In Linen Suite Collection to get the Stamp set, Punch, Embossing folder along with the Lovely Linen Paper

Due to the nature of the technique, none of the cards were quite the same.
